Motorcycle tank refurbishment / Motorcycle tank repair
Greetings motorcycle fans,
Motorcycle tank refurbishment / Motorcycle tank repair
Unfortunately, not such a cool topic for our favorite hobby, motorcycles. Unfortunately, it is sometimes unavoidable that older tanks start to rust on the inside. The tanks are bare on the inside, which of course means that if the tank is not full of fuel and stands for a long time, it quickly starts to rust, usually at the top on the side where the fuel cap is.
But let me put it this way, you can fix the whole thing again and get it back in really good shape so that it doesn’t start to rust again.
The bad thing is, if you don’t notice it right away, the express problem is completely in the carburetor. Which of course results in extremely modest situations that are best avoided.
We specialized in tank refurbishment and repair five years ago and do this on a daily basis. In other words, we clean the tanks, then remove the rust, see how it might even have to be welded. Even that is no problem, we weld the tanks with MAG so that they are nice and tight and then they are tested for leaks.
In addition, if there are large dents in the tanks, we can also tin the whole thing
So that the painter has less work to do afterwards.
Yes, if everything is now nice and clean and also tight, then we seal the whole thing with the Wagner sealant. This is transparent, so you can see exactly whether the tank has already been cleaned. I think this is very important and you retain the original look and don’t have a red or white rim at the top of the fuel filler cap.
The whole thing gets two coats and you can see it or recognize it by the fact that it shines a little and feels like a plastic coating.
Now we have the advantage that the tank is sealed and the sheet metal is protected from rust.
So let’s summarize how we can help you with this problem.
Paint stripping
Rust removal
Welding
Leak test
Sealing
Painting / powder coating
I hope I have been able to help you with this. Of course you can also do the whole thing yourself, but I can give you the tip that cleaning is the most difficult part of the whole thing, that the tank is gently derusted and is really really shiny, as sheet steel normally looks.
I’ve attached a picture here so you can see what it will look like when we’re finished.
