Repair and welding for long-lasting performance
Yamaha FJ1200 engine housing repair / welding
A Yamaha FJ1200 recently faced a special challenge: a damaged engine housing had to be repaired. It was broken at one point, the thread was damaged and there was a lack of material. If you find yourself in a similar situation, we are available to help you with the repair.
Of course, you can try to carry out the repair yourself, provided you have the necessary welding skills. In this case, I will be happy to advise you and share my knowledge of the required filler materials with you.
It is important to know that such repairs are definitely possible and even extremely effective. The issue of sustainability plays a major role, particularly when it comes to original vehicle parts, especially for classic cars.
We repaired and welded the damaged component for the Yamaha FJ1200. The process included thorough cleaning, material deposition using the TIG welding process, followed by shaping and re-cutting of the thread.
Such repairs are no problem for us, as we can draw on over twelve years of experience.
If you want to do the welding yourself, I recommend using a white tungsten electrode. This allows you to increase the cleaning effect, ideally to 30 to 40 percent. For such projects, I personally weld with 70 Hertz and use the ALM G5 filler material in 2.4 millimeter diameter – a tried and tested combination.
