Car welding battery
Greetings welding fans,
Car welding battery
Disconnecting the battery when welding is a mistaken belief and, in my opinion, counterproductive.
The battery is one of the parts in the car that can dissipate voltage peaks.
This protects the on-board electronics, but of course only when it is connected.
IF welding is required on a disconnected battery, please disconnect the PLUS and MINUS cables. Both must be connected to each other with good conductivity.
The best way to do this is with grip pliers or a screw clamp.
It is best to attach the earth tongs to the same welding part as close as possible to the welding point.
However, this does not protect you from stray currents.

I’ll be honest, we’ve never done it and I know a lot of car mechanics and garages that don’t do it either.
But this is a subject where opinions differ.
