Hey welding fans, hello.
Welding stainless steel for beginners
Today I’m going to give you a few tips on how to get started with stainless steel TIG welding.
The first thing I would like to say is that it is important to think about your health and wear a face mask when welding stainless steel, because it gives off toxic fumes that are not healthy. Try to weld in a well-ventilated room or even better with an extraction system.

So, what is important… For me, one of the most important points is definitely a gas lens. Not a standard nozzle but really a gas lens, because this has a much better and more even gas flow. This means that there is no gas turbulence and the molten bath is optimally protected from oxygen. The larger the glass or ceramic nozzle, the more gas coverage you have.
The cooler the melting bath remains, the more beautiful it is, and the melting bath also runs much more beautifully.
An additional advantage is that you can also pull the needle out further, giving you a great view of your melt pool. Now I’ve just said it, I’m an absolute fan of a glass nozzle, especially for beginners, because you can really see much better what you’re doing when welding and how the scaling forms, and I think it gives you a better feel when welding.
Or rather for the weld seam, because you can see exactly how it forms.

With stainless steel, it is best to set the gas between 8 and 12 liters, which ensures that you have excellent gas coverage.

The tungsten electrode should also always be optimally connected, don’t make it too sharp or too thin and make sure that you always grind the needle again once you have entered the melt bath.
Another important point for me is to lay the tube pack down so that you don’t have any weight on your wrist.
So either over your shoulder or on your lap or on the welding table so that you have plenty of freedom of movement and your hand is nice and light.
Yes, and the last thing I would recommend is that you visit my YouTube channel and my Instagram channel, where you can find tips and tricks on welding every day.
We can show and explain a lot more to you. Because the best way to learn is to see how it’s done!
