Welding on galvanized components
Greetings welding fans,
Welding on galvanized components
So the question is welding on galvanized components, what are the advantages and disadvantages? So clearly, right from the start, it has disadvantages. Direct welding on galvanized steel is very difficult.
In other words, it ignites very badly, it sprays extremely regardless of whether it is TIG or MAG, it sprays and glows purple / green and the worst thing about the whole thing is, of course, the vapors that are released. Which are extremely poisonous. These can also lead to zinc poisoning.
It is therefore best to remove the galvanizing if there is no other way to avoid actually welding the parts again.

But then of course you also have to consider that if it is pipe material, the zinc is still in the material and is therefore more difficult to weld and the vapors are also released. So I remembered, if there is no other way and really make sure that you weld with suction or a face mask, that is really very important.
So my conclusion is to try to avoid welding on galvanized parts, if there is no other way, weld electrodes in any case.
