Beginners welding TIG
Hey welding fans, hello,
Beginners welding TIG
you want to start with WiG welding and don’t have much experience yet. Today I’ll give you a few tips on the best way to get started.
The important thing, and I always mention this right at the beginning, is the protective equipment. We basically need a welding helmet, welding gloves and I always recommend a face mask. Welding stainless steel or aluminum releases fumes that are not healthy.

Try to weld in a well-ventilated room, but of course not so strongly ventilated that it blows away your shielding gas during welding.
The ideal case would of course be a suction system, but you can easily wear a face mask under your welding helmet.
Important protect yourself NOW simply & cheaply from welding fumes!
What is the best way to start TIG welding?
First of all, I would recommend that you simply practise on two sheets and weld beads on the sheet. So that you get a feel for how many amps. You have to get to grips with it, gain a lot of experience and then it comes bit by bit.
Of course, coordination also plays a role, guiding the torch in the direction of welding and then dabbing the filler material into the weld pool. Of course, this takes some practice, but as I said, it comes with time and gets better and better.
Now the question is, of course, what do you want to weld? Aluminum or stainless steel and steel – of course, we have to differentiate between the burner accessories we work with.
With stainless steel and steel it is relatively the same. I would definitely recommend a gas nozzle, you can use this with all three materials. Glass nozzles are also a great story. This gives you a great view of your weld pool and you can see exactly how your weld seam is forming.
In my opinion, it’s really good for beginners because you can see exactly what you’re doing. Once again, the most important thing when welding is visibility, i.e. always wear a clean welding helmet so that you can really see through it and always sit down so that you can really see the weld pool.

Then, as always, my recommendation is to make it as easy as possible for yourselves. Get a vice to help you or sheet metal sections, where you can position the parts you have to weld nicely and get to them without cramping.

Another tip for stainless steel is to work with a little more gas. We say from 8 l to 12 l you can set the pressure lower here. Here you can already see that the melting bath runs much better and more smoothly. It is even better to use a large glass nozzle here. It’s even more fun and works even better.

When it comes to the settings for your welding machine, I can only say that the welding machines really are somewhat different. It’s best to take a few minutes and really try out your welding machine to see what it can do, what it does and how it behaves with certain settings.
Yes, this takes a bit of time, so take a pen and a piece of paper so that you can make a note of your good attitude straight away. This is the best way to get to know your welding machine and know exactly what is important when you get into a situation.
Another of the most important aspects of TIG welding is cleanliness. It doesn’t matter what kind of material it is. Always clean the parts you want to weld. There are various options here, such as a wire brush, a cloth and acetone, for example.
