I think there are different ways to guide the welding rod correctly, but first of all I would say do it the way that is easiest and most comfortable for you. If you are a beginner and just starting out with welding, you should not make things unnecessarily complicated for yourself.

In the beginning, there are enough other points you need to pay attention to. These are also more important at the beginning and it is best to make about 5 cm weld seams at the start to get a feel for them.
