Can tanks be welded Motorcycle tank / car tank

Greetings

Can tanks be welded Motorcycle tank / car tank

Can leaking tanks be welded again – yes, that’s no problem at all!

Whether car or motorcycle tanks, whether steel or aluminum, both materials can be welded very well. What are the prerequisites? First of all, of course, we have to localize the leaks if they cannot be seen visually, and the whole thing is done by means of a squeezing process.

With which we can find out exactly where the leaks are. Once we have done this, the whole thing has to be cleaned inside and out. Then you can weld the whole thing optimally.

Most of the time we are talking about parent tanks such as vintage motor cycles or cars, and we have already done a lot of Simson, MZ, DKW, Trabant, Awo, even a Ferrari.

Of course, there is also the case with cars that the tank is not leaking at all but the baffle plates in the tank have come loose and are now moving through the tank. So of course the whole thing no longer serves its purpose.

This was the case with the Ferrari tank and we even had to cut the tank open to get to the baffle plates and weld them back in.

We have been carrying out tank repairs like this for a good five years now and have built up a lot of knowledge in this area, which has already made a lot possible.

Should you ever need such a repair, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or e-mail.

For all those who want to weld their own tank because they are welders themselves, for example, we have a short guide and details of materials that we use and have had good experience with.

  1. The most important thing is to clean the inside and outside so that the gases that are really not funny are also removed inside and it is definitely always advisable to remove them.
  2. Decision TIG, MAG or MIG so which process makes the most sense to weld with. My tip here is to look at the material thickness and the condition where exactly the incorrectness is. But in most cases I would say Mag at the beginning because aluminum does not rot and there is no rust, so you can usually go straight to it with TIG
  3. MAG start at the lowest level and first build up a place with material and then continue to build up material and the hole and run together like a snail to the center
  1. Finally, go over it again with TIG to make sure that it is tight and looks tidy
  2. Tank with compressed air and leak-proof spray trigger : Leak detector spray Here is a link: https://amzn.to/3gnHX1Z Air gun here the link: https://amzn.to/3hmThgd
  3. so and the last tip is the secret weapon if nothing works and you just can’t get it then you need the additional material here is the link: https://amzn.to/3hqXeAn
  4. for the best protection I would seal the tank at the end, then it is completely perfect again and you have peace of mind (but it is also important that the tank is 100% bare and clean)
