a welding machine that can weld material up to 4 mm thick should not really be a problem. Four millimeters is really not much. I would say that most welding machines have an average output of between 180 and 200 A. This means that it is definitely possible to weld 4 mm sheet thickness with such devices.

Of course, it always depends on the appliance and the preparatory work. If the device has less amperes, it may be that it will be tight at 4 mm. But of course you have the option of preparing the whole thing a little, i.e. preheating the sheet. In other words, heat the tray or part as much as you can, i.e. as warm as possible. I say over a flame, hotplate or hot air dryer!

Depending on what you then have to weld on the part, it is of course also possible to touch or mill the whole thing, which of course makes the whole thing thinner at that point. You don’t need quite as much heat and can then fill up nicely at the point.

So in my opinion, the conclusion is that most devices can weld sheet metal or certain parts up to 4 mm without any problems.
