Grinding stainless steel, what is the best way to do it?
Why do you actually have to grind stainless steel? There are two possibilities. Once you have somehow welded a mitered part, for example a frame, and now you want to clean up the finish so that the weld seam is no longer visible.
Or scratches or similar due to damage. Of course you have to know that stainless steel is available in two different versions. One is normal stainless steel and one is ground with a forty-grit finish. This can be ordered ready-made and is usually more suitable for optical things, because it simply looks nicer.
When welding, it is important to apply enough material beforehand and to ensure that there are no indentations at the edges of the weld seam. After you have welded, simply allow the whole thing to cool down and carefully wear it down with a serrated lock washer or disk washer.
I’ve always wanted to grind it in such a way that it looks like a polished finish. Now there is a very simple trick. You can buy very thin 0.5 or 0.6 stainless steel sheets everywhere. Sheet metal, which you glue on and thus you can bring in the miter the sanding super because you now go with a sanding roller on the entire width in the direction. When the side is finished, simply apply the adhesive tape to the other side and add the finishing touch.
Finally, go over it with a polishing roller so that it is nice and smooth and properly polished. This gives you a great result at the end and simply looks great. We have the whole thing in video form, i.e. you can watch it again in the link.
