What is the difference between TIG and MAG welding?

 

 

 

So let’s start with the tig welding.

 

 

In this welding process, we have a kind of torch with which we melt the material. In the other hand, we then have an additional material that we can add as required.

 

 

 

With mag welding, as soon as you start the torch, the wire always comes out, i.e. the arc starts, so you start the welding process and the filler metal always comes out immediately.

 

 

 

This is the big difference between the two welding processes. Of course, they also differ slightly in detail.

 

 

 

Both welding processes have their advantages in certain areas.

Let’s start with MAG.

 

 

Advantages:

 

• little heat input
• goes faster
• great for metal construction
• easy to weld
• Well suited for beginners
• Inexpensive to purchase

But of course there are also differences where you have to say that one method simply works better or is simpler for a certain area of application.

 

 

 

Anyone who welds a lot should definitely be proficient in both processes and be equipped with both.

The big advantage is of course always saving time and money. The quality is of course also better with the respective welding process.
