Aluminum bicycle frame welding – this is how we do it

One of the most popular sports is cycling. Unfortunately, it is always the case here that something gets broken. Unfortunately, there are always a few weak points and what can you do about them? Of course, you can buy a new frame or a new bike, but if it’s a cool bike and you don’t have a new frame, there is of course the option of having the aluminum bike frame welded.

But is that even possible? Does it hold at all and does it make sense?

I can tell you that the whole thing makes sense. We practice that often. It’s always almost the same places, either on the seatpost or on the swingarm, so we’ve really repaired a lot of things. So we can say that a lot is possible.

It is always important to return the whole thing to its original starting position. Of course only if it is already completely torn off and then I think there is always a reason why it tears, so I try to make it more stable than before.

Here we have two options: either a reinforcement tube can be inserted into the pipe and welded or a reinforcement plate can be placed on the outside. In addition, I weld two or three layers, i.e. a deep weld seam and another wide oscillating weld seam on top.

We have already been able to save and repair over 200 frames.
