Welding hazards
Greetings from Schweißfan,
Welding hazards
The worst dangers when welding!
- Vapors and gases
- Incorrect protective clothing
- Fire
- UV radiation
- Combustion
So, I’ve already listed a few examples of what can be dangerous when welding. Let’s start with dangerous vapors and gases during welding. Regardless of the material, all welding processes release fumes that are very harmful to health.
What can we do about it? The cheapest and easiest ways to protect yourself are a face mask and a well-ventilated room. An extraction system is expensive but effective.
Protective clothing that protects us from burns and UV radiation is a must. There is special clothing that does just that. The welding helmet is of course very important, and you should not necessarily choose the cheapest one, but a helmet that switches off at frequency.
This is much easier and better on the eyes. On the subject of helmets, all I can say is make sure you don’t just do a few staples without a helmet. Always wear a helmet when welding. Regardless of whether you only score points or weld more. UV radiation is also very harmful to the skin and eyes in the short term.
When MAG welding due to spatter formation, it is of course also important to ensure that there are no easily flammable objects in the vicinity.
Such as plastic, cardboard, cartons or similar. I can recommend extremely good sweat protection blankets if you need to cover something or want to protect something, for example. these are great blankets that are now available for a good price and don’t catch fire.
And here’s another tip Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in case X happens. The financial outlay is worth it if something catches fire.
Yes, I have basically already explained UV radiation. It is very important to wear long clothes. Always wear a welding helmet. My dermatologist once recommended that I treat areas that are exposed, such as the neck etc., with sun oil.
