In my opinion, this is the most important issue that is often overlooked. Namely the issue of vapors and gases, which really should not be underestimated when welding. We have the vapors that are produced during welding, plus the welding gas that displaces the oxygen.

Of course, none of this is healthy. What can be done about this? The simplest and quickest thing would be to weld in a well-ventilated room, but of course in such a way that there is no wind, because that would of course be a great disadvantage for our shielding gas. Next, you could simply wear a face mask, for example from 3M, as we do here.

Yes, and last but not least, which is of course the most expensive point, would be an extraction system. They are available in stationary and mobile versions, so if you really weld on a daily basis, I would definitely recommend something like this. We also have it at every welding station.

If someone really welds every day over a long period of time, they know exactly what I’m talking about. You usually notice it in the evening with headaches and tiredness if you don’t do anything about the vapors.

So do me a favor, try to set up one of the three points somehow with you and really make sure you have such a simple cheap respirator mask and ventilate the room well, anyone can do that.
