Welding cast aluminum cylinders
Hey welding fans greetings
Welding cast aluminum cylinders
Hello welding fans, greetings, very interesting topic again today, namely welding. We always have cylinders or cylinder heads where for example, the thread is defective, i.e. we have to use material and my milling cutter then cuts a new thread so that everything is perfect and new again.
Then there is also the case that, for example, a cooling fin is broken off or torn, which can of course happen with older vintage motorcycles, e.g. due to signs of age or vibration or, of course, due to falls.
And that’s exactly what we specialize in repairing. So if you need support you are welcome to contact us at this page and get in touch with us. Then we can help you with your problem.
And for those of you who can weld your own cylinders: What should you pay attention to or what is important when welding cast aluminum cylinders?
As always, cleanliness is the most important thing when welding. So pay attention to cleaning! Place a wire brush next to the part when welding and clean it in between. I recommend Almg5 as a filler material, which works best. if the weld pool is unstable, Alsi5 will also work.
Another important point is not to apply too much heat to the material for too long, it is best to weld with a lot of amperes but only for a short time. And do this bit by bit so that you don’t apply too much heat to the part at certain points.
Important protect yourself NOW simply & cheaply from welding fumes!
To create a new cooling fin, we usually use 3 mm smooth aluminum sheet. This usually fits very well. Then a little tip at the end. When you let the whole thing “stainless steel beads” shine, you have an even look and then it is almost no longer noticeable.
Finally, of course, I have a video for you where you can see the whole thing again. I hope that we have been able to help you with these tips and would be delighted if you would take a look at our channels, where you will often find tips and tricks on the subject of welding. For those who don’t weld themselves, you can see what we do and how we can help you.
